Kolkata, Dec 11 (UNI) Opposition leader in the Assembly Partha Chatterjee (Trinamool Congress) today alleged that telephones of party supremo Mamata Banerjee and other leaders were being tapped by the state administration.
Tabling an adjournment motion in the House, Mr Chatterjee said '' a team of police personnel are engaged in the phone tapping of Ms Banerjee and other party leaders from Bhabani Bhavan in Alipore.'' He said letters in this regard had already been written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil by Mr Dinesh Trivedi, MP, urging their intervention in this regard.
'' Though the telephone system falls under the jurisdiction of the Union government, it is the state police which is involved in the phone tapping,'' Mr Chatterjee observed.
Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim, who rejected a discussion on the issue, said he would ask Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to look into the matter.
