Italy keen to co-operate with India in design industry

Bangalore, Dec 11 (UNI) CII-NID will hold a two-day design summit from tomorrow in which Italy, recognised as a world leader in design, will be exploring possible avenues of cooperation with India.

National Institute of Design Director Darlie Koshy told reporters here today the central idea of the summit with the theme-- Leadership Through Design-- was to reshape the cities of the future, at the same time preserving historical centres and heritage buildings.

Design thinkers, educators and practitioners from around the world would discuss new challenges and opportunities for designers wiht global mindsets to play a leadership role in global and local organisations to serve strategic goals, he said.

The present summit assumes a greater significance from the perspective of implementation of the National Design Policy announced by the Centre recently.

''Italy is recognised as the world leader in design in all its various manifestations, from fashion to industrial design, lifestyle to urban design, and is now exploring all possible avenues of co-opearation with India in this sphere,'' he said.

The highlight of the summit is an exhibition of 100 objects of Italian design from permanent collection of La Triennale Di Milano, a prestigious museum for design in Italy, which would give this city a glimpe of 50 years of Italian excellence in the field.

''These objects created by cutting edge design and concept, have defied time and fashion trends by becoming icons of modernity and taste and can be huge source of inspiration for young Indian designers attending the design summit,'' Mr Koshy said.

Italy would be represented in the diffent sessions of the summit, with speakers from its most prestigious institutions and present an Indo-Italian workshop titled Designing, Lifestyle and the City-Managing Modernity and Heritage aimed at comparing experiences in the field of architecture and managment of urban spaces, he said.
