Margao, Dec 11: Defending champions Dempo Sports Club are hoping to use the home advantage to snatch full points against lowly-placed Kolkata's Mohan Bagan in their fifthth round ONGC I-League championship match to be played at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, here tomorrow.
Dempo, flying high on the home performance, have notched up three consecutive wins and a draw from four outings so far, and are topping the table with 10 points.
Mohan Bagan, with four points from a win, a draw and two losses, have had a poor start and have been inconsistent in their performance so far.
Dempo are a much balanced side with an enterprising attack comprising of Nigerian duo of Renty Martin and Edeh Chidi, and Anthony Pereira. They have ample support from Brazilian medio Roberto Mendes Silva (Beto) and Nicolau Borgues. Dempo's striking force, thus, looks formidable. They also have a dependable defence.
Bagan, too, boasts of a very good attacking line-up, spearheaded by Bhaichung Bhutia who scored two goals to win against Air India, Mumbai, in the last match. Helping him will be Jose Ramirez Barreto, Douglas D'Silva, S Venkatesh and Lalkamal Bhowmick to deliver the goods.
The match is important for both the teams. Dempo needs to go all out to maintain their top position, while Mohan Bagan have to increase their points tally.
A confident Dempo coach Arman Colaco is happy with his team's performance so far and hopes that his boys will put up the same performance tomorrow. He informed that defender Samir Naik, who is nursing an injury, will not be playing tomorrow.
Bagan coach Carlos Pereira said, ''Dempo is a strong opponent for us, and beating them on their home ground will be tough, but we will make every effort to snatch points,'' adding, ''We need win to improve our points position.''
