Bangalore, Dec 11 (UNI) Karantaka Legislative Council Chairman B K Chandrashekhar today opposed the appointment of former bureaucrats as the chairmen of the Search Committee to appoint Vice Chancellors to the universities of Bijapur, Hampi and Mysore Universities in the state.
In a letter addressed to Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who was also Chancellor of all the universities in the state took objection of appointing former bureaucrats as heads of search committees to suggest names for the post of Vice Chancellor to universities including that Bijapur Women University.
Stating that "it is unedifying and ill-advised to appoint bureaucrats to such high-profile task of selecting heads of universities " Prof Chandrashekhar regretted that bureacrats were preferred to head such committees over highly acclaimed academicians and former vice chancellors and renowned writers.
The Council Chairman also referred various representations he had received on the issue opposing bureaucrats and stated that it would be better if the appointed bureaucrats as a symbol of respect for academe and the learned men and women of Karnataka submit their resignations. "I would go one step further and suggest that bureaucrats, serving or retired should not find a place in such decision making platforms" he had stated in his letter to the governor.
