Bypoll for Poonch-Haveli assembly seat tomorrow

Jammu, Dec 11 (UNI) The stage has been set for the much-awaited Poonch-Haveli constituency bypoll, which will be held tomorrow in Jammu and Kashmir.

Major parties were focusing on the by-election as ministers and MLAs of parties like Congress, National Conference(NC), PDP and BJP toured the constituency seeking support for their respective candidates, for the past so many days, sources said.

Meanwhile, eight candidates will be contesting in the by-election, with four independent candidates, including Yashpal Sharma, who had resigned from the Congress.

''A tough fight is expected between independent Yashpal Sharma and NC candidate Aijaz Jan, son of late MLA from Poonch G M Jan as 'pahari' vote will play a key role during the elections,'' the sources told UNI.

However, district Election Officer, Poonch, has asked all the eligible voters of 87 Poonch- Haveli Assembly constituency to produce Election Photo Identity Card on the polling day at their respective polling booths for proper identification.
