Books worth Rs 15 lakh stolen from varsity: Proctor
Hyderabad, Dec 11 (UNI) Books worth more than Rs 15 lakh were stolen from the library during the administration of erstwhile Central Institute of English and Foreign Language (CIEFL) here, English and Foreign Language (EFL) University Proctor Harish Kumar Vijra said today.
The CIEFL was upgraded into a Central university recently by an Act of Parliament.
Speaking to newspersons here, Prof Vijra said 49 volumes of Encyclopaedia of Photography and 20 volumes of Britanica Encyclopaedia were among the stolen books.
Disciplinary action had already been initiated against those responsible and a one-member inquiry committee constituted to probe the loss of books and equipment from the library and suggest remedial measures.
The Committee would also enquire into various allegations regarding a 'scam' in the purchase of books under the Ford Foundation Grant 1990 and of air-conditioners and computers in the library.
