New India Assurance employees launch 2-day protest

Mumbai, Dec 10 (UNI) The New India Assurance employees launched a two-day protest today, demanding the immediate and unconditional revocation of the suspension of 14 employees of the New India Assurance and four of the Oriental Insurance.

According to the National Federation of General Insurance Employees, the employees were suspended by New India Assurance Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Bimalendu Chakrabarti in October this year, after the talks between the union and the management failed.

Working president of the union, A K Mishra said, ''We will continue our fight against the CMD and will launch an indefinite hunger strike from January 8, next year.'' The union is also demanding the removal of the CMD claiming that the growth rate of the Company has come down from 14.69 per cent last year to 4.49 per cent in the first half of the financial year because of mismanagement.
