Kemprai new chairman of NC Hills autonomous council

Haflong, Dec 10 (UNI) Mayanan Kemprai was today unanimously elected as the chairman of the newly elected North Cachar Hills District Autonomous Council (NCHDAC) in presence of all the elected executive members of BJP-ASDC combine.

The alliance of BJP-Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), which routed the incumbent Congress to win the NCHDAC election, was also renamed as the United Democratic Alliance.

Mr Kemprai, who won the Diyungmukh NCHDAC seat for the third consecutive time, took over as the 20th chairman of the Council as the first session of the 10th NCHDAC was also held today.

NC Hills Deputy Commissioner A K Baruah formally declared Mr Kemprai as the new chairman.

His name was proposed by chairman of the United Democratic Alliance Prakanta Warisa and seconded by the NC Hills district BJP president Kulendu Doalagupu.

Talking to newsmen later, Mr Kemprai said he would stress on propagating work culture in the Council, which has almost become non-existent in it.

The alliance is yet to elect the Chief Executive Member of the Council, deemed as the most powerful position in it.
