Bhopal, Dec 10 (UNI) Following Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's wife Sadhna Singh being given a clean chit in the dumpers' purchase case, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax M K Moghe claimed that there was no pressure on him.
''I am not under pressure from New Delhi or anywhere else. Cases are decided on merit alone,'' Mr Moghe told UNI here. He explained that the Income Tax (IT) Department took action as per the law.
Mr Moghe refused comment on the dumpers' purchase case wherein the Lokayukta Special Police Establishment filed a first information report against Mr Chouhan, his wife and others following a local special court's directive for an inquiry into purchase of dumpers in Ms Singh's name and subsequent hiring out of the vehicles to Rewa's JP Cement factory.
However, IT sources said that the department found no irregularity in the IT return submitted by Ms Singh. Investigation of the return submitted by Mr Chouhan was in the last phase and, prima facie, no irregularity was found.
On alleged disproportionate assets worth several crores of rupees being unearthed during recent raids at the premises of the then Health Director Yogiraj Sharma and several business offices, Mr Moghe said that investigation was underway in these cases. The procedure might take some time.
He added that the procedure of submitting IT returns by companies has gone online. However, it would take some more time in case of individuals.
