Chandigarh, Dec 10 (UNI) The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Gen (Retd.) S F Rodrigues today released a handbook "Your Child's Road Safety" here today.
Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised the need to "catch them young" and said that the DPI (Schools), S.K. Setia and some of the School Principals will be associated for giving practical shape to a child-friendly plan to develop interest and understanding in road safety techniques among children at the age of 5, through educative programmes in the family and schools.
He said that we have already initiated action for giving practical shape to this project of immense importance by associating educational institutions like Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan through innovative strategies.
He also stressed the need for re-structuring of the Children's Traffic Park here to educate the children about Road Safety measures.
General Rodrigues also urged the author of the book, Harman Singh Sidhu, to continue more ventures in areas of children interests.
Mr Harman Singh Sidhu, a web developer and President of the Arrive-Safe Society Chandigarh, who is confined to a wheel chair after a road accident, has undertaken a mission to teach children on Road Safety Programmes.
This 100-page book, with colourful sketches, elaborates various steps and tips to the children while walking on foot, on wheels, school bus, road signs marking and a complete plan of school area traffic management.
The book also has code of safe practices for the drivers, parents and adults.
