CII-NID organises two-day design summit

Ahmedabad, Dec 10 (UNI) The two-day seventh ''Design Summit'', a joint initiative by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and National Institute of Design (NID) to assess the current scenario, future trends and promotion of design in the Indian industry will take place at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre from December 12.

Briefing reporters, NID Director Dr Darlie O Koshy said this year's theme for the Design Summit is ''Leadership through Design'', wherein design thinkers, educators and practitioners from around the world will discuss new challenges and opportunities for designers with global mindsets to play a leadership role in global and local organisations to serve strategic goals.'' The first CII-NID Design summit was held in 2001 in Bangalore wherein the roadmap for design was presented which later paved way for the National Design Policy of the government. The Indian government has recently announced a national design policy and the summit this year assumes a greater significance from the perspective of implementation of the National Design Policy, he said.

Dr Koshi said that the Italian Exhibition, ''100 Objects of Design'', showcasing a selection of some of the most meaningful objects of Italian design ranging from the post war period up to the present will also be a part of the CII-NID design summit. National Design Business Incubator, an initiative of NID will also hold its design idea fair as a part of the design summit, he added.

Mr Vikram Kirloskar,Chairman, CII National committee of design and Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd will deliver the welcome address, NID Director Dr Darlie O Koshy will provide the theme address and special address will be delivered by H E Antonio Armellini, Ambassador of Italy to India.
