Lucknow, Dec 10 (UNI) Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rajnath Singh 'Surya' today appealed to the people to support Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate and son of former Prime Minister late Chandrashekhar, Neeraj Singh, in the December 29 Ballia by-election.
The seat fell vacant after the death of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar.
In a statement issued here, the disgruntled BJP leader exhorted the people and political parties to vote in favour of Neeraj singh.
''The BSP, which returned to power with a thumping majority in the State Assembly poll, is misutilising resources by rehabilitating parks, constructing memorials and installing idols...Chief Minister Mayawati has nothing to do with the pain and suffering of the common man. All her vows during the election hustings have turned hollow,'' Mr Singh alleged.
He maintained that the time was ripe to teach a befitting lesson to the ruling BSP and opposition parties should not miss the opportunity.
While Neeraj is contesting the by-poll on an SP ticket, Vinay Shankar Tiwari would represent the BSP.
So far, almost seven candidates have filed nominations, the last date for which is December 11.
Nomination papers would be scrutinised on December 12, while counting of votes take place on January 2.
