New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) A1 Team India would like to improve on their performance in the last race at Sepang to keep their hopes alive for a podium finish when they venture out at the unexplored Zhuhai International circuit in China on December 15 and 16.
After securing a strong sixth position by virtue of ace driver Narain Karthikeyan's clean driving at the end of the sixth race at Sepang, A1 Team India has steadied its points and moved closer to a podium finish, amidst a keen battle between 13 of the 22 teams.
Considering the team's qualifying place, Karthikeyan drove well and picked up a few places during the Feature race. However, the team will have to improve the qualifying set up at Zhuhai to help move further up the grid.
The race at Zhuhai promises to be a thrilling one as none of the 22 drivers have enough experience of driving in the unexplored 4.3 km international circuit. Moreover, the teams will have no previous data to rely on when setting up the car.
However, A1 Team India rookie driver Parthiv Sureshwaren, who last drove on this circuit for the Formula Asia Championship in 2000, feels that Zhuhai track is great for overtaking.
''It is a great track for overtaking. There are a few long straights, hair pin bends and fast corners. Otherwise, it is a very flat track.
''However, set up is crucial as there needs to be a compromise between straight line speed and downforce. On this track upward and downward downforce both work well, so it is important the team finds the right balance,'' he said.
