Youth Congress Activists looted by armed gang

Thane, Dec 9 (UNI) A group of Youth Congress Activists (YCAs) from Mumbai, who were on their way to Gujarat to participate in election campaign, were looted by armed gang after midnight near Virar on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, the District Rural Police informed this afternoon.

The police said Mumbai Pradesh Youth Congress Spokesman Akram Anees Khan and few other members of his group were on their way to Gujarat in a vehicle. They were waylaid at Waghobhakhind by the armed gang of around 25, who attacked the youths with stones and lethal weapons injuring two YCAs.

The gang fled the scene after looting around Rs 3.55 lakh, the police said.

The two injured were treated at a local hospital and later discharged.

Search operations were on in the nearby jungles to nab the gang members.
