Kathmandu, Dec 9: Maoist Chairman Prachanda said a failure to reach consensus on key political issues within this week would plunge Nepal into constitutional crisis.

Speaking at Bhairahawa, he said the country was in such a grave crisis that national integrity was at stake.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Prachanda said his party was holding parleys with the Nepali Congress(NC), however, a breakthrough remains uncertain.

He said if an agreement is not forged by this week, the Maoists would go for an alternative, adding his party could seek an alliance with the CPN-UML for change in government leadership.

He also charged the NC with tacitly supporting the monarchy.
