India upset Wales to enter quarters, England cotinue to win

Chennai, Dec 9 (UNI) India pulled off a sensational upset over higher ranked Wales to enter the quarter finals along with defending champions and three times winner England in the ICL 21st world men's squash team championships here today.

Spearheaded by their no 1 player and national champion Saurav Ghosal and no 2 Ritwik Bhattacharya who upset their veterans 37 year old David Evans and Alex Ghough to win 3-0. No 3 Siddharth Suchdev also won his match defeating Jethro Binns 11-8, 11-7.

Earlier, Ritwick defeated Evans 11-6, 11-10(3-1) while Saurav beat Ghough 10-11(2-4) 11-7, 11-3, 11-0. India are trying to improve on their 11th place finish in the last championship in 2005.

However, Pakistan were forced to contest for lower positions losing to Netherlands 2-1 with their top two players Amir Atlas Khan and Mansoor Zaman losing their matches. Only Farhan Mehboob managed to beat Piedro Schweertman 11-7, 11-7 in the third singles.

England blanked Germany 3-0 to enter the last eight stage.
