Islamabad, Dec 9: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he met Pakistan People's Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto for the security and solidarity of the country.

Addressing a public meeting at Gujranwala yesterday, he said, ''I met Ms Bhutto for the cause of the country and talked with her on the issue of reinstatement of deposed judges and restoration of judiciary to pre-November 3 status before elections but she talked about independence of judiciary.'' The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted him as saying that the present rulers gave nothing to the country except poverty, unemployment and inflation.

He said if All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) decides to participate in the general election, it will prove to be a referendum for the survival of the country.

Emphasising that he has come to the country to save it, Mr Sharif urged the people to support him in his struggle, adding he was ready to offer every sacrifice and people should also be ready for it.
