Hyderabad, Dec 09 (UNI) The Congress Legislative Party today alleged that former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu had 'cheated' the people of Kuppam by not taking up development projects during his nine-year rule.
Addressing a press conference here, Government chief whip N Kirankumar Reddy claimed that Congress would defeat Mr Naidu from his home constituency Kuppam in the 2009 assembly elections in the state.
The ruling Congress in the state had waived off power arrears of farmers to the tune of Rs 9.75 crore, he said the govenrment was supplying free power worth Rs six crore to them every year.
He said the Rajasekhara Reddy government had sanctioned construction of 24,000 houses in three years, as against 5,000 houses constructed by the TDP during their rule.
Stating that the state government had taken the initiative to construct the Palar irrigation project in Kuppam, the Congress leader said work on the project would begin after Supreme Court accords permission.
Accusing Mr Naidu of closing down the Chittoor district dairy society to establish his own dairy unit, Mr Kirankumar said the state government had set up cooling centres in the district for the benefit of dairy farmers.
He pointed out that the Chalapati Rao Commission had also found fault with Mr Naidu for granting huge money to a private company to take up farming with Israel technology in Kuppam.
