Chandigarh, Dec 9 (UNI) The disbursement of pension and other financial assistance in the rural areas to the eligible beneficiaries in Punjab would now take place through commercial banks instead of the Gram Panchayats.
These schemes include old age pension, financial assistance to widows and destitute women, dependent children and disabled persons.
This follows the decision of the state Cabinet to amend Old Age Pension and Other Financial Assistance Schemes Rules 1996 of the state of Punjab.
The meeting of the Cabinet was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The Cabinet also gave approval for transfer of approximately 12 acres of land of Faridkot district jail to the deprtment of Medical Education and Research for the cosntruction of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Complex at Baba Farid Medical University, Faridkot.
The Cabinet gave its approval for the creation of posts for the newly created districts of SAS Nagar (Mohali), Tarn Taran and Barnala.
The cabinet also approved the annual adminsitrative reports for the Vigilance department for the year 2005, Land Records, Pushpa Gujral Science City Society and Punjab Public Service Comission for the year 2005-06 UNI
