400 runs scored in ICL Twenty20 match

Panchkula, Dec 9 (UNI) 20X20=400 (11x6s, 37x4s) for 9. That was the equation in 12th match 20-20 ICL match.

That was the total of runs poured in in today's match between Chandigarh Lions and Mumbai Champs in the Indian Cricket League Twenty20 Championship at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Sector 3 here on Sunday night.

The holiday crowd could not expect more entertainment than today.

The cricket fans sighed vow 11 times when the batsmen lofted the white ball into the stand with massive and effortless hits.

Chris Crains of Chandigarh Lions won the Man of the Sixes Award, if any, as he hit seven huge sixes. That is not all as 148 runs were scored through well-executed boundaries. With atmosphere filled with thrills, the connoisseurs of cricket were a bit disappointed lot as Mumbai Heroes captain and highly rated West Indian captain Brian Lara miserably failed to in spire his team.

In four innings Lara had played so far has not even in single innings could reach the double figure. Mumbai Champs are still pointless from four outings and are virtually out of the race in the $ 4 m prize money tournament. Chandigarh Lions have also ensured a semi-final berth with six points from five matches.

Chennai Superstars have also made the semi-final grade with six points from four matches. The credit of scoring 200 plus goes to Chandigarh Lions who made 219 for 4. In an electrifying innings of 70 runs, runs flowed from his bat as he piled up 70 from just 26 balls. His hurricane knock contained 4 fours and seven sixes.

Imran Farat(34), Manish Sharma (37 not out), Tejinder Pal Singh (27) and Andrew Hall (12 not out) also made significant contribution as Chandigarh Lions posted the highest total of 219 in tournament so far.

Mumbai Champs tried to match their rivals but they ran out of overs. They could muster only 181 for 5 and Chandigarh Lions won by 38 runs and Chris Cairns was declared Man of the Match. Dheeraj Jadhav (58 not out) and Kiran Pawar (54) were the principal scorers for Mumbai Champs.
