Two govt officials convicted in corruption cases

Hyderabad, Dec 8 (UNI) Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases today sentenced P Bhaskar Rao, former senior Assistant to Revenue Divisional Officer in Khammam district, to six months rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.

The Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on Rao, in default to undergo 15 days of simple imprisonment under section 7 of PC Act, 1988.

The Judge further sentenced Rao to one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 under section 13 (2)r/w13(1)(d) of the PC Act.

However, both the sentences would run concurrently.

Rao was trapped by ACB officials in November, 2001, for accepting Rs 600 as bribe for recommending and forwarding an application to the Khammam Collectorate for sanctioning a licence for a fire cracker shop, an ACB release here said.

Meanwhile, Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, Nellore, sentenced P Srinivasulu, Additional Assistant Engineer, APSPDCL, to six months rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 for offence under section 7 of the P C Act, and one-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for offence under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the PC Act.

Srinivasulu was trapped in June 2001, by the ACB officials for accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 for preparing an assessment report by reducing the estimated value of pilfered energy from Rs 75,000 to Rs 25,000.
