Agartala, Dec 8 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has sought SMS votes for Zee TV Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champ contestant from the state Smita Nandi, who has been short listed in the top eight.

Mr Sarkar and his Cabinet colleague Finance Minister Badal Choudhury, along with leading musical personalities of the state, attended a musical show last evening at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan here, being organised by the Agartala Press Club and appealed to the people of the region to vote for Smita in the coming weeks.

The entire city rocked to the event while both the veteran CPM leaders and Agartala Municipal Council chairperson Shankar Das hummed to Smita's melody along with her fans.

Mr Sarkar has become the third minister in the country to openly urge the people to vote for musical icons. Earlier, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang had campaigned for Indian Idol contestants Poonam Yadav and Amit Paul respectively.

Smita was born and brought up in a midle class family of Tripura and her performance has already been appreciated by leading musical personalities of the country, which prompted the media and state government to launch campaign for Smita.
