Bhubaneswar, Dec 8 (UNI) Twentynine meritorious undergraduate students from Utkal University, Kalinga Industrial Institute of Technology (KIIT) and Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) were awarded Scholarship of Merit by POSCO TJ Park Foundation of South Korea at a function here.
POSCO-India Chairman-cum-Managing Director Soung-Sik Cho who addressed the gatherings on the occasion yesterday, said each student selected for the scholarship would get 500 USD per year with a scope for renewal for subsequent years based on their performance.
The Scholarships were merit based and recommended by the respective Universities and Institutions to the TJ Park Foundation.
Mr Cho said POSCO-India for the first time was introducing scholarships for undergraduates exclusively from the plant site area from this year.
He said thirtyfive names have been selected for the scholarship while giving priority to the to-be-displaced families and those belonging to the economically backward sections of the society.
The Scholarships will be given to the students soon, he said and hoped that it would help motivate the outstanding students to excel in their fields of study and inspire the less privileged students to pursue higher education.
