Kozhikode, Dec 8 (UNI) Former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Kerala unit President and ex-minister Cyriac John and about 1,000 of his followers will rejoin the Congress at a function here on December ten.

Talking to newspersons here today, District Congress Committee President K C Aboo said Mr John and his supporters, who were returning to the Congress fold after 23 years, would be accorded a grand reception by the DCC.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Ramesh Chennithala would inaugurate the function, which is to be attended by many senior leaders, including leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Oommen Chandy, Mr Aboo said.

Claiming that a new awakening was visible among the rank and file with more and more people set to join the Congress, Mr Aboo said Mr John was returning to the Congress after realising that the NCP had lost its relevance in the state politics as both the United Democratic Front and Left Democratic Front were hesitant to accept them.

He said the party high command had given its nod for the re-entry of veteran leader K Karunakaran to the party without any pre-condition.
