Govt schools better than public schools: Sheila

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) Noting that Government schools have been showing better results than public schools, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today expressed the hope that the Government schools including Navyug Schools would soon become more purposeful than public schools.

Inaugurating Navyug School and laying foundation stone of a sports facility block at Talkatora Stadium, to be commissioned before the Commonwealth Games, the Chief Minister said parents have started preferring enrolment of their wards in Government schools which are better managed today.

Speaking at the function, where area MLA and NDMC vice chairperson Tajdar Babar and Chairman of NDMC Parimal Rai were present, Ms Dikshit expressed confidence that Navyug Schools would be able to achieve their objective of providing quality education to the wards of weaker sections of the society.

Navyug schools besides NDMC schools were started in 1975 with the aim to provide quality education on public school pattern in Hindi medium to the talented students of lower income group sections of the society in the NDMC area. At present NDMC is running eleven Navyug schools out of which five are Senior Secondary, one Secondary and five Primary schools. Keeping in view the pertinent demand of such schools the one being inaugurated is sixth Senior Secondary school in the series which will cater to the students of Gole Market area largely of low paid Government servants and slum clusters.

Earlier, Ms Dikshit, after laying the foundation stone of a sports facility block, expressed pleasure that the an NDMC stadium has been chosen as a competition venue for hosting boxing event during the Commonwealth Games.

''Our endeavour should be to construct a new block, meeting all the standards of international level,''Ms Dikshit said.

The block, which has been named as Sports Facility Block and is to host the boxing events, will be five storeyed alongwith two basements having parking facility for 330 and 220 cars respectively with all the facilities like Technical Official Rooms, Change Rooms, Doping Control Room, Medical Room, Jury Room, Sports Information/Reception, Management Office, Games Family/Athlete Lounge, Cafeteria, Toilets, Media Lounge, Meeting/VIP lounge etc.

Its special concept will have landscape meant for Energy Conservation, Rainwater Harvesting and use of recycled water for flushing horticulture. The project will cost Rs.104.00 crore and will be completed in 18 months.
