Kochi, Dec 8 (UNI) Foreign delegates from nearly 40 countries, including a delegation from the Commonwealth countries, today made a beeline for the live demonstrations of various coir processes at the ongoing India International Coir Fair (IICF) here.
Nearly 120 foreign delegates and more than 100 domestic buyers from different parts of the country evinced keen interest in watching the demonstrations of coir pith processing, greenhouse reduction and various other processes in the coir industry.
According to official sources, academicians from reputed institutions like the International Institute of Natural Fibres, Poland, the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, will participate in technical sessions to be held from December nine-11 as part of the IICF.
Scientists from various research institutes, including the Advanced Materials and Process Research Institute (AMPRI), Bhopal, and the Central Coir Research Institute (CCRI), Kalavoor, will present papers on technical subjects.
Coir exporters and leading importers from Germany, UK and the US and representatives of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and service providers like BVQI and DHL will also participate.
Apart from nearly 100 stalls displaying a variety of coir products and the buyer-seller meets, the IICF will also witness a seminar on the topic 'Marketing and Social Issues in the Export Oriented Coir Sector' tomorrow.
The seminar will be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Pongalur N Palanisamy while Mr Seshkumar Puilipaka, Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MS&ME) will deliver the keynote address.
Nearly 26 papers will be presented, of which seven speakers will be from abroad. Around 400 delegates from 26 countries are expected to attend the seminar, Coir Board officials said.
