Aizawl, Dec 8 (UNI) Mizoram Home Minister Tawnluia has announced that five per cent reservation would be guaranteed for Home Guard volunteers in the new fourth IR battalion.
The minister made this announcement at the 36th Rising Day celebrations of the Mizoram Home Guards at Sesawng yesterday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Home Guards sports meet, 2007, which was a part of the celebrations, the state Home Minister announced that as many as 200 new Home Guard volunteers would be recruited in the coming year.
He said Home Guards were responsible personnel and the state government was proud of them for their meticulous services.
Commissioned on December 6, 1971, the Home Guards service started functioning as a separate department from 1997. Their main task is to help and coordinate with the police in maintaining security in the state.
To mark their Rising Day, 225 Home Guard volunteers donated blood at their headquarters at Chawlhhmun today.
Mizoram Director General of Police Lalrokhuma Pachuau, DIG (training) L H Nawna and Commandant C Zorammuana were also present on the occasion.
