Jalandhar, Dec 8 (UNI) Punjab Director General of Police NPS Aulakh today inaugurated the 56th All India Police Hockey Championship-2007 here at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium.
On the occasion, the Punjab Police Band and Bhangra team of the police regaled the audience with their impressive performance.
In the opening matches, Haryana defeated Madhya Pradesh (7-1).
The second match saw Karnataka defeating Andhra Pradesh (6-1). In the third match, Jammu and Kashmir defeated Chandigarh (10-0). While in the fourth and last match of the day Maharashtra defeated Tripura by 8-0.
In all, 22 teams from all over the country consisting of 500 participants of the national and international repute including Gaganajit Singh, Jugraj Singh, Tejbir Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh and Daljit Singh Dhillon are participating in this championship.
For the first time, Punjab Police has also introduced prizes in six categories including Best Field Goal Scorer, Best Forward, Best Penalty Corner Converter, Best Defender (Full Back), Best Half Back and Best Goal Keeper.
A fair play trophy for the best disciplined team of the championship has also been introduced.
