Vitesse plans USD 21 mn investment

Hyderabad, Dec 7 (UNI) Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation today announced that it would invest US Dollars 21 million over the next three years to significantly increase its presence in Hyderabad, where it currently managed a design-development centre.

Talking to newspersons here, India Design Centre Director Ravi Pattisam said the company announced its plans to increase investment on its design centre by over 100 per cent every year.

The company would invest US Dollars three million in the first year, US Dollars six million in the second and US Dollars 12 million in the third for the India Design Centre and rampup the head count to 50 from 20 over the next six month.

"We have critical technical expertise in enterprise and carrier networking that will allow Vitesse to deploy more products into this fast-growing market segment." Vitesse acquired the ASIC design centre from Adaptec several years ago for the development of Raid-on-Chip processors for storage applications. More recently the Design Centre had been focussed on developing products for the emerging high-performance ethernet networking application.

The India Design Centre had deployed several multi-million gate integrated circuit products in a veriety of technologies, including a Raid-on-Chip processor for the storage market, and a recently announced highly-integrated Gigabit Ethernet MAC controller for carrier and enterprise netwoking.
