UP to move 10 jails outside city limits
Lucknow, Dec 7 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to shift ten district jails located inside the cities and drawn up an ambitious plan to modernise the existing jails in the state.
The jails to be shifted outside the cities are located at Moradabhad, Shahjahanpur,Azamgarh, jaunpur, Badaun, Barielly, Varanasi, Muzaffarnagar, Rampur and Lucknow.
The decision was taken by the state cabinet here today.
According to the directive, these new jails would be contructed with 25 per cent additional capacity for the prisoners against the existing ones.
In the state capital, district jail, model jail, Nari Bandi Niketan (women jail) Sampurnanand Jail training institute and office of the DIG(Jail) would also be shifted outside the city.
The decision was taken due to security apprehensions besides to prevent the prisoners from using modern gadgets to operate from the existing jails.
