Chennai, Dec 7 (UNI) Slovakian Ambassador to India Alexander Ilascik said his country was keen on fostering strong business ties with Tamil Nadu in Information Technology and Automobile sectors.
Addressing a gathering after the launch of Indo-Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry here last night, he said there were many opportunities in IT and automobile industry, pharmaceuticals and energy in the state.
''Now-a-days, India is one of the most important trade partners of the Slovak Republic in the Asian continent.
''Our developed metallurgical, engineering pharmaceutical and chemical industries offer many more possibilities for cooperation with Indian enterprises.
''Slovak Republic, from the other side, can be, due to our central geographical position on the continent, one of the gates to other countries of the region for Indian products and investments in Europe.
''Our business with India is expected to touch 200 million dollar in 2007 which is likely to double in 2008,'' he said.
Mr Alexandar said, ''Slovak import on the other hand has touched 85 million dollar in 2006, which means seven per cent increase to the year before.'' Typical commodities of Slovak imports from India including tanned leather and upper shoe parts, drugs and medical equipment, automobiles and parts, blank removable data storage media, cotton yarn, textile and ready made garments.
He also indicated that Slovakia was an advantageous and economical destination for tourism.
