Programme to foster innovation within open source communities
Bangalore, Dec 7 (UNI) Sun Microsystems has instituted a multi-year programme to foster innovation and recognise the most interesting initiatives within Sun-sponsored open source communities worldwide.
Addressing newspersons here today, Sun Microsystems Chief Open Source Officer Simon Phipps said the Sun had instituted an Open Source Community Award with a cash prize of at least US Dollar one million.
He said the programme would begin in mid-January next year and anybody can participate on its six selected communities, including GlassFish, NetBeans, OpenSolaris and OpenSPARC.
''Sun and six open source communities will announce details on how developers can participate in the individual programmes,'' he said.
