Power sector employees protest privatisation

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) Employees of the power sector staged several demonstrations across the country protesting privatisation moves and urged the government to scrap the Electricity Act 2003 which had gone in for unbundling of the State Electricity Boards (SEBs).

Employees, who included engineers held ralies and conventions in state capitals in the country under the banner of National Coordination Committess of Electricty Employees and Engineers and urged the goverment to add adequate generation capacity in public sector.

They also demanded improving working conditions of power sector employees and engineers.

Convenor, B S Meel in a statement said that inspite of the disastrous consequences of privatisation of the power sector being experienced in state after state, the ''government is bent upon continuing this perilious path which is anti-people.'' Another massive campaign is underway for preparing a national level agitation on the same issues, Mr Meel said.
