New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) All India Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today had a one-to-one meeting with UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha LK Advani on the Nandigram issue here.
During the meeting, Ms Banerjee apprised the UPA Chairperson about the ground realities at Nandigram in West Bengal where several peasants were killed, houses burnt, and women raped allegedly by CPM cadre. The meeting lasted half an hour.
She complained that even now the Left Front government was not cooperating with the CRPF at Nandigram. She demanded a thorough inquiry by an independent agency into the Nandigram episode. She further complained that despite the presence of CRPF personnel, several people were still missing and the Centre should prevail upon the state government to search for the missing.
Speaking to UNI, Ms Banerjee said that Ms Gandhi gave her a patient hearing on the entire issue and assured her that she would look into it.
Later, Ms Banerjee called on senior BJP leader LK Advani and gave a detailed report on the Nandigram issue. At the meeting, which lasted 25 minutes, Mr Advini assured her of BJP support in resolving the Nandigram issue in a peaceful and honourable manner.
