Kochi, Dec 7 (UNI) Kerala Revenue Minister K P Rajendran today said the State Government has decided to write-off lease arrears of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) to the tune of Rs 9.81 crore.

Speaking to reporters here, he said a decision to this effect was taken at the Cabinet meeting yesterday and it was also decided to extend the lease agreement for 3.5 acre of land at Rs 100 per acre for a period of 25 years.

'' The decision will give a fillip to marine research and related programmes in the State,'' the Minister said.

Mr Rajendran noted that the Cabinet had also decided to form a Committee, comprising Law Minister M Vijayakumar, Fisheries Minister S Sarma, himself and Chief Secretary P J Thomas, to resolve the problems related to railway and road construction for the Vallarpadam project.

The Minister also informed that public response to the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Bill, for which a Select Committee sitting was held here, was encouraging.

He said the Bill would be introduced in the Budget session of the Assembly and enacted as early as possible. The proposed law would help in saving paddy fields and solving agricultural problems.
