Chandigarh, Dec 7 (UNI) To mark the beginning of the second Pinjore Heritage Festival, a 'Run for Heritage' event was organised at Panchkula near here today.
Former cricket captain Kapil Dev and players of Indian Cricket League (ICL) participated in the event besides about 2000 students from different colleges and schools of the district.
While flagging off the 'Run for Heritage', State Minister for Tourism Kiran Choudhry said that the event was specially organised to make the young generation aware of the rich cultural heritage of 17th century Pinjore Garden palace.
The Minister said that tourism played an important role in branding any State and keeping this in mind the Haryana Tourism was taking all possible measures to preserve the rich heritage and was organizing a number of events all through the year.
She said last year the response of the Pinjore Heritage Festival was very encouraging as it had carved out a niche in the history of the state.
She said the Haryana government had given a major thrust to tourism in its tenure of 32 months and about Rs 50 crore had been sanctioned by the Central Government.
She said that a team from UNESCO recently visited Haryana and Himachal Pradesh to declare Kalka-Shimla rail track as World Heritage Site.
Commisioner and Secretary Tourism Keshni Anand Arora and Managing Director, Haryana Tourism Corporation, Satwanti Ahlawat, Deputy Commsioner Rajindera Kataria and SDM Virender Dahiya also took part in the "Run for Heritage" UNI MA MMS1704
