Jamnagar, Dec 7 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the Election Commission had taken the right step in issuing a show cause notice to Narendra Modi for his reported statement, during an election meeting, justifying the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter.

Addressing reporters here, Mr Deshmukh said after Mr Modi's comment in a public meeting justifying the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin, even the Gujarat Government counsel K T S Tulsi, representing the state in the Supreme Court, threatened to quit, saying it would be difficult for him to continue defending the government in the case.

He said there was a vast difference between 2002 and 2007 elections, as this time the wave is in favour of Congress in Gujarat.

Mr Deshmukh confidently claimed that Congress will get a majority in the Assembly Elections and form the next government.

He said he was in south Gujarat for the past two days, campaigning for Congress candidates. ''The people of the state, it seemed, were tired of false promises and propaganda of the present rulers and they virtually wanted a change'', the Chief Minister added.
