Hyderabad, Dec 7 (UNI) The strike by the junior doctors entered the sixth day today, even as the State government accepted their demands during the talks held on December five.
Speaking to newspersons here, Hospital RMO Usha Rani said the total number of children who died at the Niloufer Hospital rose to 23 since December two when the doctors went on strike.
An average of six to eight children, with chronic diseases and malnutrition, were dying every day.
The death came even after the children were provided emergency treatment and intensive care, she claimed.
The hospital had taken all steps to avoid any shortage of doctors by deploying specialists from other government hospitals in the city.
The junior doctors were demanding the suspension of MLA Afsar Khan from Assembly Asif Nagar, who allegedly attacked their counterparts in the hospital on December two night, and booking attempt to murder cases against him.
The government assured them that a six-member committee would be constituted to look into their demands, including an ordinance to book cases against persons who attacked the doctors and nurses at government hosptials.
