Patna, Dec 7 (UNI) The opening day of the winter session of the Bihar Legislative Council was adjourned for the day today after making obituary references.

Council Chairman Prof Arun Kumar led the House in expressing sorrow over the demise of several prominent personalities, including former legislators. The House also observed two minute silence as a mark of respect to departed souls.

Among those remembered are former union minister Tarkeshwari Sinha, late MP Ajit Kumar Singh, former MLC Ram Vilas Jha, former MLAs Upendra Nath Das, Narmdeshwar Kushwaha, Maniram Singh, Yogeshwar Gope, Bhikhar Bhaitha and Lambodar Pathak.

Earlier, as the House assembled, RJD and Congress members raised their demands for extending the session as many issues of public importance were required to be discussed.

The Congress and RJD MLCs also expressed their concern over the inconvenience caused due to increased security cover in the state legislature as only one gate was kept open for entry and exit.

The chairman appealed to all members to participate in the debate over a number of issues of public importance and said the agenda includes a wide range of issues relating to people's concern.
