Building unearthed during digging for National Highway

Hoshiarpur, Dec 7 (UNI) A big building with beautiful enamel paintings and engravings on its walls and roofs, was unearthed by labourers during the digging for widening of Jalandhar-Pathankot National Highway near Mukerian town towards Pathankot.

According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mukerian, Ajmer Singh, while widening and strengthening of the highway, a JCB machine hit a wall buried underneath, last evening.

The machine operators and some labourers, who ventured to have a closer look through the hole caused by the machine, found a big hall there. On entering the hall, they found a big building buried under the road.

Archaeological Survey of India was being informed to look into the matter and do further excavation of the area to ascertain the history of the building and its adjoining areas, added Mr Singh.

The building has two entrances and has beautiful enamel paintings and engravings on its walls and roofs. It seemed that this building had been got constructed by some royal families, he said.

The news of excavation of the building spread like a wildfire and people of the area thronged the site.

Mr Ajmer Singh said that he had deputed Tehsildar, Mukerian to look into the matter and got deployed police force there to protect the building.
