BSNL, Regional Passport Office launch passport query service

Lucknow, Dec 7 (UNI) State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), in association with the Regional Passport Office here today launched passport query SMS service.

With this, the Lucknow RPO became the first office in the country to have such a facility. The new service would enable the 40 lakh BSNL subscribers in East Uttar Pradesh to find the progress of their passports.

''The SMS facility would help people avoid standing in long queues at the RPO to get details of their passports,'' said RPO, Lucknow Zahur Zaidi.

The facility was inaugurated by a member of the audience.

The RPO, Lucknow covers 48 districts of central and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

''I have asked the BSNL officials to involve private cellphone operators on a revenue sharing basis to extend the reach of the service,'' he added.

Anyone wanting to know the progress of his or her passport application will have to type PSPT, followed by space and type the file number and send a SMS to 56666. The facility is avaiable on a 24 hour basis all through the year.
