Jammu, Dec 7 (UNI) Lauding the efforts of the army in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor Lt Gen S K Sinha (Retd) today said the army was playing a ''major role in the state in war and peace.'' Speaking at a function organised on the Armed Forces Flag Day at Raj Bhawan here, Lt Gen Sinha said, ''The sacrifices offered by the Armed Forces bear testimony to their patriotism and devotion and dedication towards the duties.'' He said the army had been splendidly fighting low intensity war and also carrying out extensive and commendable civic programmes.
''Army has been playing a crucial role in guarding borders and assisting the civil population during natural calamities,'' Gen Sinha said.
''During the service to the Nation, many have been martyred, disabled and become infirm,'' Lt Gen Sinha said, adding ''Rehabilitation and resettlement of these personnel and their families is our sacred obligation.'' Meanwhile, the Governor said 'Flag Day' was an occasion to express gratitude to the gallant heroes and solidarity with them and their families.
