Pucca houses for SC under SCP: Minister
Puducherry, Dec 6 (UNI) Puducherry Welfare Minister M Kandasamy today said the administration will provide pucca houses to the people of Scheduled Caste, utilising funds under the Special Component Plan (SCP), meant for their welfare.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Kandasamy said the government would bear the expenses towards tuition fees for SC students studying for Engineering, Medicine and IPS, through the SCP fund. Similarly, Rs one crore would be spent for the expenses of five SC girls getting pilot training.
The administration would set up two residential schools for SC students in Puducherry and one in Karaikal region with a campus of 10 acre each. An industrial estate, would come up at a 50 acre site with Central assistance, he added.
Earlier, volunteers of several Dalit organisations submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister's Office and Mr Kandasamy demanding, among other things, creation of a separate department to deal with the SCP fund and its proper utilisation.
