Mysore, Dec 06 (UNI) Former Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and renowned scientist prof M G K Menon today called upon the scientists to involve commonmen in the developmental process in ushering the economic progress of the country.
Delivering the inaugural address at the 77th annual session of the National Academy of Sciences (NASI) here today Mr Menon urged the scientific community to shoulder the responsibility in involving common people in the process of national development programmes.
Making access of quality education and nutrition foods at afford able costs to the poorer masses should be the focus than providing reservations and quotas, he said.
Complimenting the Central Food Technology Research Institute CFTRI for its achievements in the field of the science and technology particularly in the area of food sciences Mr Menon said that many people does not know about the Amul powder and other packed foods are from the CFTRI.
He also emphasised the need for making science and society integrated and felt that scientists can play a major role in achieving it.
CFTRI Director Dr V Prakash speaking on the occasion said that food security was all about from farm to the consumer and nutritional security was all about maternal health to that of a child.
