Imphal, Dec 6 (UNI) The political parties of Manipur have opposed the delimitation exercise in the region.

A meeting of all the political parties in the state was held yesterday and a strong delegation will go to New Delhi to discuss the issue.

The political parties have demanded that the delimitation exercise should not cover Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The meeting was attended by Presidents and representatives of Congress, BJP, MPP, NCP, RJD, CPI, CPI (M), MSCP and JD(S). It was decided in the meeting to draft a memorandum and submit it to the Delimitation Commission of India.

The political parties contended that the delimitation exercise was based on 2001 census, which is full of wrong data as abnormal growth rate has been recorded in some places.

The associate members of the Commission from Manipur will protest the delimitation exercise, who are Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Health Minister Ph Parijat, Congress president Gaikhangam, O Joy MLA, Dr T Meinya MP and Rishang Keishing MP.

General secretary of the all parties political forum K Saratkumar has appealed to the associate members to participate in the December 10 meeting of the Delimitation Commission and oppose the delimitation exercise.

A Manipur Information Centre official said Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, along with 19 representatives of all political parties, will meet the Prime Minister in connection with delimitation of assembly Constituencies of Manipur tomorrow.

19 political leaders from Manipur will go to New Delhi.
