Police Water Sports Championship in City of Lakes

By Staff

Bhopal, Dec 6 (UNI) More than 15 teams from all over India are expected to take part in the five-day seventh All-India Police Water Sports Championship, which begins on December 10 at the Upper Lake here.

This is the second time the championship is being organised in the Madhya Pradesh capital. Participants include hosts Madhya Pradesh Police, last year's winners Jammu and Kashmir Police and paramilitary forces.

''Twenty-six gold, as many silver and bronze medals are at stake in kayaking, canoeing and rowing events,'' Inspector-General (Bhopal Range) Anil Kumar told reporters today.

State Home Minister Himmat Kothari will inaugurate the championship and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will preside over the valedictory programme.

''About 250 sportspersons, including international-level ones, will be in action. Various committees, headed by Director-General of Police A R Pawar, are busy providing final shape to the arrangements,'' said IG Sukhveer Singh, who is the organising committee secretary.
