Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Dec 6 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder-leader S Ramadoss today welcomed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi terming as constructive criticism his remarks about various facets of governance in the State.
''People at the helm of affairs should have this approach. We are not pointing out the shortcomings of the Government to find fault with it. It is only for the welfare of the people,'' he told newspersons at his residence.
Dr Ramadoss said the party would stage agitations in front of government hospitals and primary health centres across the State from December 10 to 17, to bring to the Government's notice the vacancies for doctor, paramedical staff and nurse posts, shortage of medicines and lack of medical infrastructure in the State.
Pointing out the mushrooming of private hospitals throughout the State, he said this would not be of any advantage to the poor and the rural people. To provide quality healthcare to the rural poor, the number of doctors in government hospitals and PHCs should be doubled, he suggested.
The PMK leader demanded funds collected as education tax should be used solely for education purpose. While the Chennai city corporation had collected Rs 60.3 crore as education tax in 2006-07, it had spent only Rs 24 crore for the purpose and the scene was no different in the other corporations, he rued.
