Ahmedabad, Dec 6 (UNI) The BJP today maintained that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's remark, justifying the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter, was simply a ''political response'' to Congress President Sonia Gandhi branding him as a 'merchant of death.' BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar told mediapersons here that Mr Modi had simply sought public opinion on the fate of Sohrabuddin to which people present at a public meeting responded by saying ''Kill him''.

Referring to this morning's demonstration for the removal of Mr Modi by several MPs at the entrance of Parliament House in New Delhi, he said ''It exposes the double standards of those MPs who demand punishment for the Chief Minister for fighting against terrorism and on other hand are attempting to save the life of Mohd Afzal, who has been sentenced to death by Supreme Court in the Parliament attack case.'' The BJP Leader also raised questions about the sincerity of these MPs and wondered why they were observing a silence over the rape of minority women and murders of innocent people in Nandigram in West Bengal.
