Chandigarh, Dec 6 (UNI) The night temperatures continued to remain low in north-west India today, dipping to 3.0 degrees Celsius at Adampur in Punjab.
Cold surface winds blew across many places as the Sun played hide and seek, during the day in the region.
A dense fog enveloped many areas in the morning, reducing the visibility upto 800 metres at Udhampur, Halwara and Ambala and 700 metres at Palam in Delhi.
Adampur, near Jalandhar, reeled under cold conditions with the mercury plummeting to 3.0 degrees celsius and turned out to be coldest place in Punjab.
The minimum temperature hovered below normal by one degree each at Amritsar and Patiala and two degrees at Ludhiana, respectively recording 5.5 degrees, 6.6 degrees and 5.6 degrees Celsius.
The temperatures also fell across Haryana, hovering four degrees below normal at Ambala, Karnal and Narnaul as cold winds swept across these towns.
Ambala, Karnal, Narnaul and Rohtak recorded the minimum temperatures at 5.5 degrees, 5.8 degrees, 5.4 degrees and 6.7 degrees celsius respectively.
Cold wave lashed many areas of Himachal Pradesh, although the night temperatures rose at certain places in mid and lower hills. The entire tribal belt and Kullu valley were under the impact of cold wave conditions.
The minimum temperature rose to 1.5 degrees celsius at Manali, 2.5 degrees at Bhuntar, 3.0 degrees at Una, 2.9 degrees at Sunderdnagar and 10.7 degrees Celsious at Dharamsala, headquarters of Kangra district.
Shimla and its surrounding areas also reeled under cold climatic conditions with the minimum temperature dipping to 5.8 degrees celsius at the capital town. Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district recorded minus 1.5 degrees Celsius.
People suffered under cold conditions at Srinagar recording minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, while Jammu showed 9.6 degrees.
Chandigarh, which recorded a fall in the minimum temperature yesterday, registered 6.6 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, today.
The Weather Office has predicted light to moderate rain or snow at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and mainly sunny days in Haryana and Punjab during the next 48 hours.
