Bangalore, Dec 6 (UNI) MapmyIndia, a leading navigable map data provider, has introduced the MapmyIndia Navigator, an in-car GPS navigation device that promises to 'change the road travel'.
This portable satellite-connected GPS gadget is pre-loaded with comprehensive maps of the entire Indian sub continent and provides real time, voice guided, turn by turn navigation for seamless travel across the country.
Briefing newspersons Roshan Verma, Marketing Head of CE Infosystems, the promoters of MapmyIndia, said at present the device offers maps of 55,000 towns and villages, 150 cities and 18 major cities. It would be upgraded every six months covering wider areas.
"Internationally the market for in-car GPS navigation, though a niche area, has seen an exponental growth especially in the US and Eurupe. In India an estimated 100,000 such devices is expected to be sold in the next one year," he said.
He said the portable pocket sized device is powered by Horizon Navigation software and comes with a 3.5 inch colour touch screen.
It can also be used to view movies, hear music, play games and see photos. It has one touch address book to store favourite destination like office or home.
To bring GPS navigation and location based services to the mass consumer market MapmyIndia was making its maps available across the internet, mobile and in-car space.
The company was partnering with leading players in the eco-system, automobile companies, handset and PND manufacturers, software providers, mobile operators, internet portals and retail an ditribution networks of cars, car accessories and consumer electronic products, he said.
The device was a one time investment and the buyer need not pay any recurring charges as it dosen't need a GPRS connection. It costs Rs 21,000 including all taxes in Delhi and Rs 22,000 in rest of the country, he added.
